Yeovil started the game in high tempo and were eager to test the Cherries defence early on. The ball boys quick re-distribution of the ball emphasised their desire to attack and both Cooper and Hart had to make vital clearances in the first minutes.
Cherries forced a couple of early corners and James O'Connor fired over from the second on seven minutes. Stewart then dived at the feet of Harrold to deny Yeovil's first pressure on the Bournemouth stopper. An incisive Brian Stock pass on fifteen minutes sent O'Connor away in space down the right hand side. His cross along the surface somehow creptt through a crowd of players as nobody was able to provide a finishing touch.
Two minutes later Cherries had a penalty. Steve Fletcher worked hard to keep an attack going and Surman's trickery drew a foul from Sodje. Hayter, calm as you like, placed the ball right into the corner. Goal number twelve for the season and Cherries 1-0 up.
Browning thenf ound himself in the area as Cherries built on a good spell of pressure. He turned and shot for goal to see his effort fall beyond the far post. At the other end Harrold had a golden chance as Yeovil passed their way towards goal and O'Connor did just enough to put him off before clearing the second ball into the area. Yeovil were getting back into the game spurred on by a good home support and Jevons drilled wide from the edge of the area.
Yeovil couldn't make as much from their spell of the game as Cherries could and Stewart was troubled little despite some attractive midfield play from the home side.
Half time: Yeovil Town 0-1 AFC Bournemouth
Yeovil had the first chance of the second half through Chris Cohen. The home side worked the ball along the edge of the area being given few options by Bournemouth and Cohen fired high and wide across goal. Jevons then fired straight at Stewart with Amankwaah having won possession.
Jevons was given a chance with a dead ball situastion ten minutes into the half with a free kick on the left hand side. He swung the ball across goal and a timely deflection gave Yeovil a corner that Cherries dealt with well.
Yeovil couldn't build on the early pressure of the second half and Cherries started to control the possession in the middle. It wasn't until mid-way through the second half that Yeovil created another chance. Stewart did well to clear a high ball into the area and Poole's rebound effort was always rising.
Jevons was proving Yeovil's main threat and he drew a superb save from Stewart with sixteen minutes minuntes remaining. Lee Johnson swung in a deep ball from the right hand side and Jevons' header looked to be looping goalwards until Stewart's fist came from nowhere to turn it over the bar.
On seventy-eight minutes the referee played a good advantage for the home side allowing substitute Davies to make inroads to the penalty box. He squared the ball to Harrold, who was clumsily fouled by Cooper. Jevons stepped up and scored in the same corner as Hayter did to make good the pressure from the home side.
Davies was involved again on another counter attack spurred on by a switch of play. Nobody closed Davies down and his shot earned Yeovil a corner. Hayter had a couple of half chances late on, but couldn't convert.
Final Score: Yeovil Town 1-1 AFC Bournemouth
